The idea for With A Voice Like This and its kickoff project With A Voice Like This Christmas CD came about as a result of all my experiences and things I’d been pursuing that had all sort of hit a plateau. A Christmas a cappella doo wop song I wrote called Christmas Angel that I’d been trying to get professionally recorded for a couple of years, my own low level professional recording equipment, websites I’ve done for groups I sing with, and a podcast I’d been doing with a small, loyal following. These things had all leveled off and I was starting to feel a little frustrated with it all.
Then it hit me, why was I trying to do all these things separately when they would work so well together? So I started a new podcast all about the voice, based on my education and experience, integrated it with a companion website, recording it at Talkshoe.com, burning the RSS feed with Feedburner.com and listing it on iTunes. Then I kicked it all off in the month of November 2007 with daily updates while creating a Christmas CD and posting it at the Podsafe Music Network and BuyMusicDirect.com. And that’s how it all came about.
Since then I’ve switched from the now defunct BuyMusicDirect.com to CD Baby, gone through a sales cycle with the EP and interviewed musicians, Music Futurists and activists and been voted onto the Board of Directors of the Chicago Music Commission. The show has grown and changed and is still going strong.
