Thank you for leaving me the comment.

Alison, I’m glad I was able to write something that helped so much, it’s just what I learned through my own experiences, I’m glad I could help others with it. Too often we all get too nervous, or too nice! and forget that worth is so important emotionally, monetarily and symbolically. What a great piece - THANK YOU for sharing and for being so eloquent about it

This article has come in handy more than you know – I am helping a group of people start their own businesses right now and this message has really re-invigorated them to know that its OK to set a price that is “what your worth”. Big difference. One of the techniques I use is to put everything on a standard printed invoice at full value, and then cross parts off --by hand, in ink!-- and write "waived" next to it. Then, somewhere else on the invoice, I write something like, "this is the secret friends-only discount" or "with my compliments" so that people do see that my services are of value.

Took me a long time to realize that in order for something to have value, you can never give it away for free.

People cook all the time, so it’s easy for them to wonder, “how can it cost more than $X/person to make dinner?” when they’re opening a can and a box.

I’ve not only had training as a professional chef, I’ve also been searching for (and buying) the finest ingredients available.
